Mahabir Pun is a celebrated Nepali social entrepreneur, innovator, and philanthropist best known for bringing internet connectivity to remote Himalayan villages through the Nepal Wireless Networking Project. His efforts transformed rural education, healthcare, and economic opportunities.
He later founded the National Innovation Center (NIC Nepal) to foster research, entrepreneurship, and homegrown solutions for Nepal’s challenges. For his groundbreaking work, he has received numerous honors, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award (2007) and the Jonathan B. Postel Service Award (2014).
From his humble beginnings in Myagdi to becoming a global changemaker, Mahabir Pun’s journey stands as a powerful example of how vision, resilience, and innovation can uplift entire communities.
He is now Minister of Education, Science and Technology of Nepal
